The Custom Item Request feature enables customers to order products that aren't readily available on your commerce site, streamlining the process of handling special requests and ensuring no sales opportunities are missed. When customers can't locate a specific item on your website, they can use the "Request Custom Item" option directly from their shopping cart to submit a description and quantity for what they need. This functionality bridges the gap between customer demand and product availability, allowing businesses to capture orders for items that may not be in their standard online inventory while maintaining operational efficiency through the Kodaris platform.

The system automatically adds these requests to the customer's cart as a non-stock item with the code "NONSTOCK", preserving the customer's description as notes for internal review. These requests can then be processed through the operations portal, either by mapping them to existing products in the system or pushing them directly to the ERP for fulfillment.

This feature covers:
• Product setup and configuration in PIM (Product Information Management)
• Customer-facing custom item request process from the shopping cart
• Addition of non-stock items to customer orders

Configuration Requirements:

Step 1: Create the NONSTOCK Product
Create a product with the exact code "NONSTOCK" (uppercase) using one of these methods:
• ERP Integration: Set up the product in your ERP system and it will automatically sync to Kodaris
• Manual Setup: Navigate to Operations Portal > PIM > Products > Data tab and add the product manually

Step 2: Customize the Product (Optional)
• Add a descriptive name like "Non-Stock Material"
• Include product descriptions for clarity
• Upload images to improve cart display

Step 3: Activation
Once the NONSTOCK product is configured, the "Request Custom Item" button will automatically appear in customer shopping carts, allowing them to submit requests that flow directly into your order management system.
