Creating Attributes by Importing

If you would like to create several attributes quickly, it can be helpful to use our importing feature. As a reminder, Filter Categories do need to be created before creating attributes.

Once you have created Filter Categories, you can create Attributes.

  • Navigate to "Filter Categories" under the PIM section in the Portal
  • Find the Filter Category to which you would like to add attributes – this can be done by searching or taking a quick look through the filter categories
  • Click the details icon

As you can see in the screenshot above, we are in the fg_color filter category. To import attributes that belong in this filter category, click the "Import Attributes" icon.

  • Select from the dropdown the type of import you would like to use:
    • Create & Update – select if you have new attributes you would like to create, as well as update any existing attribute names in the current filter category.
    • Create Only – select if you are only creating new attributes in the current filter category.
    • Update Only – select if you would like to update existing attribute names in the current filter category.
  • Once you have selected the import type, you will be prompted to select the file that you would like to import.

The import function is quick – once you upload the selected file, the data in the file is created or updated. Please be sure that you select the correct file to import, and have your file prepared correctly.

Preparing the Attribute Import Spreadsheet

  • In order to create or update attributes, a header row of "code" and "name" is required. If the header row does not match, the import will not work.
  • Once you have added your header row, enter the attribute codes and attribute names you would like to import. Any amount of attributes can be imported – there is no limit.
    • Code – the code entered should be unique if creating a new attribute. If updating an attribute that is already in the system, the code will need to match the attribute you are updating.
    • Name – this is what the customer will see on the commerce site.
  • It is helpful to keep the attribute code pattern consistent – but not required. Having a consistent code pattern helps to streamline this process and also when assigning attributes to products.

Once the sheet is complete, export or save the spreadsheet as a .csv file and you are ready to import the attribute file.

To Edit & Delete Attributes
